What the tool does and does not do
The tool reads only the digits that you type. It is not a look-up of a national ID. It does not search for the name or data of a person, and it does not call any office.
There is no official public method to calculate the last digit. So the tool does not say that a number is real or false. It flags only what cannot happen, such as a date that does not exist or an unknown governorate code.
The tool cannot know if a number is real or if it belongs to a person. For an official look-up, go to the official offices.
Do you need the birth date in the Hijri or the Gregorian calendar? Try the Hijri date converter. To find an age in years, months and days, use the age calculator.

How is the national ID number built?
An Egyptian national ID number has 14 digits. The first digit is the century: 2 for a person born from 1900 to 1999, and 3 for a person born from 2000.
Then six digits give the birth date in the order year, month, day. Then two digits give the governorate of birth, four digits give a serial number, and one last digit is a check digit.
The 13th digit is the last digit of the serial number. It shows the gender: an odd digit is male and an even digit is female.
We use a published description of this structure. It cites Decree 1121 of 1995 of the Minister of Interior. We did not read the text of the decree.
Questions
How do I find the birth date in a national ID number?
Use the first digit and the six digits after it. The first digit (2 or 3) is the century. Then come the year, the month and the day, two digits each. For example, 2 and then 900515 is 15 May 1990.
How do I find the governorate of birth?
Use the 8th and 9th digits. For example, 01 is Cairo, 02 is Alexandria and 88 is born abroad. The full table is on the governorate codes page.
How do I know if the person is male or female?
Look at the 13th digit. An odd digit (1, 3, 5, 7 or 9) is male. An even digit is female.
Is this tool a national ID look-up?
No. It does not search for the name or data of a person and it does not call any office. It reads only the digits that you type. It cannot know if a number is real or belongs to a person.
Can the last digit show that a number is real?
There is no official public method to calculate the last digit, so we do not judge a number with it. We check only that the parts are possible: the length, the birth date and the governorate code.
Does the tool send my national ID number to a server?
No. The tool reads the number in your browser. It does not save the number and the number does not leave your device. The tool sends one anonymous count that has no number and nothing read from it.
